Web comic recommendation #1

For any of my readers looking for something to read, or even if you just enjoy video game humor and crazy antics, I highly recommend the web comic Control+Alt+Delete. Tim Buckley does a fantastic job at creating an engaging plot with quirky, authentic characters and geektastic humor.

Control+Alt+Delete (CAD for short) centers around Ethan, an eccentric gamer who takes dedication to video gaming to a whole new extreme. His friend Lucas and girlfriend Lilah ride along on the crazy train that is Ethan's life. While there is an overarching storyline, Tim will often throw in comics relating to current happenings in the video game world or shorts about various other original characters. This not only keeps things interesting, but also keeps the readers up to date and gives you a humorous look at the thoughts and opinions of the man behind the comic. The comic updates each Monday, Wednesday, and Friday.

I love this web comic; if you love video games and smiling, then you will love it too. If you choose to start at the beginning, which I recommend due to the continuous nature of the story line, be sure to give it some time before making a judgement call on whether or not you'd like to continue reading. Like many good comics it takes a bit to really get going, but you won't regret the time it took to get there!

Here is a sample for my Mario/Taken/Liam Neeson fans out there:

That Could Have Gone Better

So...I suppose I sort of, kinda, momentarily let the ball drop on this blog. A year is a moment relative to something right?  A century? A decade?  But never fear - I'm picking it back up!  The real question: which kind of ball is it?  Hmm...my inner nerd seems to be leaning toward Final Fantasy tonight - a blitzball it is!  Think we can make the Jecht Shot?  Let's do this.

Dead Island - Whoops

The release of the newest zombie survival game, Dead Island, has received a lot of attention. While some of it is quite positive, and I must say myself that the game looks fun with the amazing amount of detail put into the environment, much more of it has focused around the negative. The PC version originally released on Steam was actually an unfinished product which still had several glitches concerning 3rd person character rendering and the completely unlocked camera, allowing players to spy and teleport around the island. See some of the funnier aspects here:

After the publishing company made a statement saying they would rectify this error on Steam and fix existing versions with a patch, another player found that one of the files containing coding for a move for the female character Purna in game was called "Feminist Whore." In game, this move is called "Gender Wars" and allows her to deal extra damage to male zombies. The company stated that it was a programmer's "personal joke" and that said programmer would face repercussions. Deep Silver (publisher of Dead Island), that's pretty offensive. You may want to check for these errors before releasing a game. >.>
